International Women’s Day Case Study: Laura King – Being authentic in a male-dominated space

Laura King has been a Project Specification Manager at Knauf for close to 5 years.

Laura’s day-to-day responsibilities are to provide expert knowledge of products and services to clients and ensure compliance with the latest industry regulations. She also supports Architects and Main Contractors with their projects through to the construction phase.

Laura was excited to learn about the construction industry and become a vital part of the specification process for new and existing buildings. “At Knauf, I have never been concerned about being female in a male-dominated industry as everyone here treats everybody fairly, regardless of gender. I feel it’s a great opportunity to get involved in making the construction industry more inclusive.”

Although the industry can feel inaccessible for women, that didn’t put Laura off joining and she has since seen progress since she started in July 2019. “When I began my career at Knauf my direct and indirect team was very male-dominated. Although the industry is still very much this way, I feel Knauf has recruited more and more women into the business which I feel is a great reason to work for Knauf.”
