Welcome to the Construction Inclusion Coalition

We’re here because talking about getting things done isn’t enough.

Since our launch in 2023, we’ve been getting the word out about equity, diversity, and inclusion (ED&I), and how it will benefit the industry, those people who work in it, and the communities it serves.

You and your peers can change the way the industry works and how it is perceived, too. By joining our growing coalition, we will share the knowledge and resources we need to improve standards across the industry.

Together, we can not only support greater diversity in the workplace, but by doing so, improving the future of the sector itself. Through improving equity, diversity, and inclusion (ED&I), we can help the industry attract untapped talent and retain the people it already has.

Better starts with you…and us

The Built on Better Pledge provides seven areas where you can take action to deliver a more ED&I-centric approach within your business, by inspiring, listening, sharing, supporting, educating, measuring, and reporting progress.

Our founder members and growing coalition of more than 40 members have embraced the Pledge and are already making a real difference. But EVERYONE can get involved.

Be a part of our drive. Take action. Fill in the form.

We are asking organisations and companies from all parts of the construction industry to join our coalition and take action, guided by the Built on Better Pledge, to improve equity, diversity and inclusion.

Our aim is to help the industry attract untapped talent and retain the people it already has. Education is significant in the progress of our work – enabling those minorities already working in the sector to feel valued and safe, whilst everyone benefits from understanding the needs of co-workers and engaging in a more productive environment.

  • 61% of women check leadership diversity before joining an organisation. Inclusion helps attract and retain talent. (PWC, 2017 & Deloitte, 2018)

  • Companies with the most gender-diverse leadership are 25% more likely to outperform on profits. (McKinsey&Company, 2020)

  • Teams with more women report higher productivity. (ILO, 2019 & Hive, 2018)

Why it’s important to improve ED&I in construction

  • Construction remains one of the least diverse industries in the UK.
  • Ethnic diversity in the workforce is low, with only 6% of workers from ethnic minority groups.
