Why Inclusion Matters – Even More in Challenging Times

At the Builders Merchant Federation conference in Barcelona in June 2025, five of our Strategic Partners led a powerful session on why inclusion matters, especially during times of economic uncertainty.

Jen Cassidy (CEO Bristan), Chris Haywood (CEO NMBS), Daksh Gupta (CEO Huws Gray Group), and Ian Stokes (MD Knauf UK&I) shared personal insights and practical actions companies can take to foster inclusion and drive diversity in recruitment and career progression.

So, why does this conversation matter now?

Because our partners understand the value of an always-on approach to inclusive recruitment and the nurturing of a more diverse talent pool, and the competitive advantage it brings.

Research consistently shows that companies with diverse leadership teams and inclusive cultures are more innovative, productive, and profitable.

While the sector has made progress, there’s still a long way to go. Our 2023 research revealed that 46% of people would be more likely to consider careers in construction if the industry showed a stronger commitment to diversity and inclusion.

At the Construction Inclusion Coalition, we’re committed to driving change together by aligning our initiatives, sharing knowledge and resources, and co-creating solutions that make a real difference.

A big thank you to Jen, Chris, Daksh, and Ian for championing this conversation and inspiring the Building Materials sector to lead with inclusion.
