At SIG, we encourage both new entrants to our business and existing colleagues to incorporate apprenticeships into their career development journeys.
This approach enables us to strengthen our internal talent pipeline and create clear, meaningful career pathways.
In recent years, we’ve supported over 180 employees through apprenticeships—ranging from Level 2 programmes for those at the very start of their careers to Level 7 programmes designed for senior professionals looking to further enhance their expertise.
Of the employees who’ve undertaken apprenticeships, over 60 are women. They consistently tell us that the hands-on, on‑the‑job learning style works particularly well for them.
Apprenticeships recognise the skills they already have, build on these strengths, and offer a supportive learning environment where course tutors guide them throughout the programme.
The structure of apprenticeships is especially valuable for colleagues balancing work and home commitments. With the requirement for off‑the‑job learning, apprentices have protected time within their working week to complete tasks and projects.
This benefits SIG too, as much of the learning is applied to work‑based projects where their insights make a real difference.
