Case Study: Rebecca Blower, HR & Payroll Officer at Bristan Group

Rebecca is the HR & Payroll Officer at the Bristan Group. She joined the company just over 4 years ago in 2020 as a customer service technical advisor and moved into HR 3 years ago.

Since starting Bristan, Rebecca’s career has progressed from strength to strength, leading to further education: “I started as an admin assistant, which has progressed massively to me taking over payroll (and gaining payroll qualifications to go with it) and now studying my CIPD apprenticeship so I can progress further in my career.”

“My day-to-day duties include inbox management, keeping HR systems up to date, data analysis for the whole team, as well as processing payroll for the whole company. Joining Bristan Group felt like the best move I had made in my career; I was very excited about working for an award-winning company and wanted to show my potential to all the leaders.”

During her time in the industry, she has seen positive change in gender equity: “I have seen the company slowly change from a male-dominated company to female, and quite recently from a male CEO to female CEO, this change is one that excites me the most as Jen is one of my role models along with other senior leaders such as my manager Hayley.”

Rebecca’s career goal might have been to work within HR, but it has since grown into something more: “I was attracted to work in HR as I have a passion for people and helping them, and all the employees here are amazing and wonderful to work with and alongside.”

“What I enjoy most about my role is that no day is the same and every day I can learn something new, either from my apprenticeship or from team members.  I have managed to meet some wonderful people along this journey who have helped me to develop and have encouraged me to push myself out of my comfort zone and prove to myself that I can do this.”

To anyone thinking of doing an apprenticeship, Rebecca’s advice is: “Go for it. My apprenticeship has allowed me to carry on my day-to-day work as well as learning new skills on the side. The world is full of so many opportunities that we need to take. You only have one life to live don’t regret not taking the chance for a better future.”
