Creating a culture of Fairness and Respect at Wolseley

Wolseley, one of our Strategic Partners, shares the work they have done to increase their D&I initiatives and support a healthy and collaborative workplace environment. 

Our Fairness & Respect Board provides a meaningful voice to our people regardless of their identity, background or circumstance. It also strives to raise awareness and education across the business and drive improvements in how we work together.

We work towards achieving this in a number of ways, focusing on one topic each month. For example, every June, we celebrate Pride Month across the business by encouraging our colleagues to decorate their workplaces in solidarity with the LGBTQIA+ community. During Pride 2023, Wolseley colleagues raised a total of £5.5k for Akt – a charity which supports homeless LGBTQIA+ people.

In addition, we’ve promoted and supported religious and cultural events such as Ramadan and Diwali, and have raised awareness about the challenges faced by those with neurodivergent conditions such as autism and ADHD.

These successes culminated in Wolseley winning the H&V Award for Diversity & Inclusion in late 2023. The judges commented: “Wolseley has stepped above and beyond to set the standard for the rest of the industry and ensure people feel safe at a grassroots level. Opening up the voice so that people feel seen, heard and safe is a vastly undervalued and underestimated game-changer.”
