Anna Hitchen has been an Apprentice Internal Sales Executive at SIG plc for one and a half years.
Her role involves producing quotes, purchase orders and sales tickets for customers, as well as dealing with customer enquiries. I also work with direct-to-site deliveries.
A positive understanding of the industry set Anna up to join her role: “I was not nervous about coming into the industry, as most of my family work for SIG. I didn’t want to take the college route, so an apprenticeship seemed a great option. I was excited to join and learn what the role looks like and pleased to be closer to family.”
Reflecting on being a woman in the industry, Anna says: “As a woman in this industry, I feel lucky to work with such a great team. They give me time and support wherever I need it and I can rely on them. Trust is key but takes time to build. My branch has a real family feel. I feel that I work in a great female inspired working environment.”
Anna’s advice for other women who are interested in apprenticeships in the construction industry would be: “DO IT! It’s a great industry to build your career within with lots of opportunities for growth. The apprenticeship offering is amazing with many different areas to build your expertise within.”
