Case Study: Lola Ramsbottom, Plumbing and Heating Trade Counter Apprentice at Huws Gray, Cambridge

Lola was the first ever Apprentice at her branch when she started with Huws Gray in August 2024 in the Plumbing and Heating/Showroom.

Her role consisted of mainly counter sales, taking customer calls, goods in and scheduling/routing the delivery vehicle. Lola said: “I loved it from the first day!”

Even though it is a male-dominated industry, Lola feels at home working within the team and says: “We are like one big family. I haven’t noticed any issues whilst at work due to being the only female. I decided to do the apprenticeship as I thought doing hands-on training would be more beneficial for my career than learning in a classroom.”

Lola learns by watching and doing so the practical format of the apprenticeship is an effective way of picking up new skills.  The apprenticeship has allowed Lola to build self-confidence and has given her stepping stones to further her career with Huws Gray: “Being in a great team and connecting with my colleagues and customers has been fun.”
